Victim Support
If you are the victim of domestic violence, please call our toll free number at 888-789-5935 and ask for help. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 right away and give them your name and address as soon as they answer.
Being a victim does not mean you are alone and everyone’s circumstances are unique. There are many organizations available to you, and our mission to help direct you to the best available options for someone in your specific situation.
Who Can Be A Victim?
Despite what many people think, anyone can be a victim of domestic violence, and that includes:
- children
- teenagers
- adults
- men
- women
- members of the LGBTQ community
- elderly
- all religions, cultures and races
- disabled people
- teachers and students
- bosses and employees
Violence and abuse are universal problems and affect everybody at some point in our lives and occur in many forms and scenarios. We don’t discriminate or favor any victim’s experiences over another, we simply assess how physical and immediate the danger is and prioritize those in immediate physical danger first, but all calls for help are taken seriously and handled quickly the best way we know how.
It’s important to remember that all victims need help and support so we are doing our best to provide any help necessary to guide a victim to safety. Do not hesitate to call us no matter how old you are, what gender, race, sexual preference or nationality you are. Your life matters, and your safety is paramount overall.
Available Options
Shelter
When you call DVBK, you will be assigned a case worker who, if absolutely necessary, can provide a temporary safe house or direct you to a local shelter. Obviously, anyone in a situation where they are being physically abused needs to relocate, so it is our job to work with you to figure out the best place for you to go right away while we work with you to figure out a permanent solution.
As our aim is to protect the victims from abusers, we do not post the locations of shelters or temporary safe houses online.
PLEASE NOTE: It’s important to recognize that this is a free service for people in physical danger from someone they are involved with or a family member, and not a general housing service for the homeless. We do care about helping the homeless, but we can only direct you to a homeless shelter or related organization if you do not currently have a home.
Legal Protection
While we are not an organization that provides legal advice, we can point you in the right direction to get the legal protection and help that you need to find safety and justice.
Group Meetings
We are offering small group meetings for victims who need to talk about their problems and share their experiences with others who have endured domestic violence abuse. Please call 888-789-5935 and ask when the next DVBK meeting is scheduled to attend. Since our objective is to protect victims of domestic violence, we do not post the location of meetings online.
Self Defense
It’s important to be able to defend yourself in a situation where you are being overpowered by a physical abuser.
There are a number of free self defense classes in the area that we can direct you to.
Please do not hesitate to call us for more information about how we can help you get on a path to safety.
